A few oysters washed down with a dry white wine in the Arcachon bay, pipérade and Irouléguy rosé, the wild Basque countryside as a backdrop, scrambled eggs with truffles in Périgord, confit de canard in a bastide in Lot-et-Garonne or an Armagnac savoured in Chalosse… There’s no doubt about it, Aquitaine enjoys the good life. The Atlantic breakers are a paradise for surfers, drawing professional competitors from all over the world to Lacanau, Hossegor and Biarritz; hikers have a huge choice of locations, from the gentle Landes inclines and the passes in the Pyrenees; while fans of rafting and canyoning enjoy the thrills of launching into the mountain streams. You can do anything in Aquitaine – as long as you live life to the full!
