Gîte (150m2) with spacious bedrooms, a large eat-in living room, balcony along the entire length of the house, a bridge down to the big backyard (600m2) with 4.5m wide swimming pool (wooden construction with removable ladder safe for kids), shed and fireplace. The bathroom has a great shower, double sink, washing machine and dryer. The toilet is separate. Part of the old farm was renovated in traditional style keeping the old wooden beams and stone walls in view. The interior is decorated with quaint second-hand furniture and brand new appliances. There is a micro-wave oven and stove with 6 burners, big refrigerator/freezer and dishwasher. Besides two double bedrooms, there is an extra bedroom especially decorated for the kids with beds, books & games. The gîte, at garden level, is completely free from the rest of the building where underneath storage space has been created because it is built into the hillside. Next door to the gîte lives an elderly woman and next to her, the owners; Herman, Jacqueline and dog ’Gitan’

Approximately 40 people live in the village of Hurecourt which lies in the valley. The gîte looks over a hill where horses quietly graze. The stall is next door to the gîte. On top of the hill begin the woods. Hurecourt, just an hour from the A31, lies a little out of the way so that it’s very peaceful. It’s only 600km from Amsterdam. Deer, fox, and even sometimes wild pigs can be seen while biking or hiking around the countryside here. In the village you can get all your basic necessities. There’s also a bank and post office. Just 3 km away is a hotel and restaurant.
Things to do locally
Climbing: different grades of difficulty in the area (Vogezen just 10km away); swimming: a picnic place on the river for safe swimming for the little ones close by and outdoor swimming pools; skiing: family slopes right around Haute-Saône itself, alpine slopes or cross-country less than an hour away; golf: 50 minutes away, have the course to yourself! Hiking: everywhere are paths through woods and fields (we have the routes at the gîte); mountain biking; horseback riding: stables all around; watersports: lake surfing an hour away; mountain sports: various possibilities in the Vogezen; tennis: courts for rent only 3 km away; fishing: ask us about a temporary fishing permit
Following activities possible nearby (max 30 minutes by car)
There are many diverse types of restaurants in the area that are not touristy. Eat and enjoy food as the Frenchman does. In the summer it’s best to make a reservation while in wintertime, you might be the only guest dining out. So you might like to drive then a little further to a larger village or busy city for more choices. Wine: the typical local Haute-Saône wines are called Coiffy en Champlitte. But if you like, just a short drive away to Jura, Arbois, you can taste the famous ’Vin-jaune’. Day trips to Elzas or Côte de Nuits are also recommended.
Other remarks
For something different, rent a so-called ‘houseboat’ for a weekend trip along the Saône. The rentals are only 15 minutes away from Hurecourt. Another nice relaxing way to see the countryside is by horse carriage: the horses know the way! For a change of scenery, the big beautiful city of Besancon isn’t far away. It’s a true French university town. The citadel includes a museum and zoo. In the area surrounding Besancon are caves to visit. And for those who loves second-hand markets, summer is the time to eat your heart out! Every Sunday they’re all over the place. The first one of the season is on May 1st in the village of Darney. It’s a great happening! During summertime there are village festivals everywhere where tourists are welcomed. So join in the fun!
You don’t have to clean the gîte before leaving. The cost for cleaning is € 40.- which you pay the owner upon arrival together with a € 150.- deposit fee. There is an extra utility fee of € 2.50 per day during wintertime.
