Exterior
Vaison la Romaine is a lovely medieval town in the green heart of Vaucluse/Provence.
Mas la Petite Baye and Studio la Petite Baye lies just outside the centre of Vaison amidst vineyards on a small road which leads you within 2 minutes straight to the town centre.

From the terrace you can see the illuminated castle and the arena. Each summer there is a music/dance festival in the arena.
Vaison has a lot of history to tell; in the past century a roman town is discovered in the centre of Vaison. This old town is for a large portion digged up and can now be visited as an open air museum at daytime. In the evening you can go around for a candle lighted guided dinner tour.
The famous roman over the Ouveze river leads to the old medieval town, were you find the life as it was in former days; small well kept houses with romantic hidden away gardens. On top of the hill is the castle located. From this place you have beautiful views around. In the town centre are lots of typical French cafes, brassieres and all kinds of smart shops and art galleries. On Tuesday Vaison is crowded with regional people coming to sell regional food on the lively morning market, where you can see and smell the seasons!

The region is a heavenly place for wine lovers. Vaison lies amidst the famous vineyards of the Cote du Rhone Valley where you can find and taste the best Chateauneuf du Pape, Gigondas, Vaqueras, Beaume de Venise, etc. right beside the roads.

More history and Provencal food can be enjoyed in Avignon (45 km), Orange (23 km), Aix en Provence (68 km), Marseille (120 km) and in all the lovely small towns in the region. It is only one hour and a half driving to the harbour/centre of Marseille and Cassis, one of the nicest beach villages.

Things to do locally
The Vaucluse is a very interesting region from the artistic point of view. Several high quality music-, dance- and theatre festivals are running from June till September. Each festival has its own website with the programmes and reservation option. But you can also easily buy tickets a few days before the event in the local town centres.
There are festivals in: Avignon (theatre), Orange (in the roman arena, opera and music), Carpentras (theatre and music), Aix en Provence (music), Roque D’Antheron (piano classic and jazz), and Lacoste (castle of Marquis de Sade; theatre and music).
We are pleased to provide programmes, websites etc.

The south of France is known by the good regional food and ingredients. There are many specialised markets in lavender (August 15 in Sault), honey, olives & oils, tilleuls (August 11 in Buis les Baronies) apricots and melons and truffles in December-March. All in the their own seasons. And of course many brocantes, antique- and potteries markets. The most famous antique market in Isle sur la Sorgue is held every Sunday morning during summer. There is also a big antique market on August 15 in Barjac, at the other side of the Rhone River.

Golf; there are courses in St. Paul Trois Châteaux, Orange, Avignon, Isle sur la Sorgue(Saumane).

Hiking; there are many short and long distance hiking paths around the Mont Ventoux and Les Dentelles de Montmirail. A brochure with Grand Randonnées and other hiking paths is available in the tourist office of each village.

Biking; the area is well known for its biking routes. For instance the challenging Mont Ventoux cross over is a must for real bike enthusiasts. Bike rentals are possible in Vaison.

Winter/Autumn
The wine harvest and many (wine) markets in September makes the region a lovely place for foodies. The truffle season and the famous truffle markets in St. Remy, Carpentras, Aix and Richerenche starts in November. There are several possibilities to join truffle search and dinners.

Sightseeing; the region is interesting for its varying landscapes and
Lovely little towns. A tour around the Mont Ventoux goes through the gorge de la Nesque and over the plateau de Sault, where the lavender colours the landscape in mid summer.
The Luberon is only 45 minutes driving. You are driving through the lovely watermill village Isle sur la Sorgue to Roussillon, Menerbes, Lacoste and Apt; all worth a visit!
The other side of the Rhône leads you to St. Remy, Les Alpilles and Les Beaux. But also to Arles, Uzes and a bit more east, Nimes and Anduze. Anduze is well known for its potteries and traditional Anduze pots.
