| A pretty, character bearing Manoir (small castle), located in the private park “Domaine la Croix Chatain”. This is a 10 acres big estate surrounded by walls, that holds an orchard, a French garden, and a forest path between the giant wood trees (for additional pictures and information visit www.domainelacroixchatain.com). It has a serene atmosphere. From the park the breathtaking view to the western Morvan is up to 30 miles far. The estate is on the edge of an old town called Lormes (around 1500 inhabitants), located in the Parc Naturel Regional du Morvan. The walking distance to the centre of this town is around 5 minutes (a couple of minutes more if you take the forest lane). On the estate you will find a restaurated coach driver’s house, Bergerie la Croix Chatain, a former fruiterie, bakery, horse stables, water tower and large wine cellars. Buzzards circling above the house, on the forest side a badger castle, sometimes a deer right in front of the porch. The interior decoration of the manoir is practically all antique, atmospherical lighting with art-deco lamps, and contains a completely furnished spacious countryside-kitchen on the ground floor with an old heater (and a dishwasher, microwave, hot-air oven, etcetera). Besides the kitchen you will also find the architecturally beautiful salon, with a large classical fireplace, the old hunting table seating up to 16 people, English sofa’s, a cosy atmosphere and central heating in the entire manoir. On the second floor there are two large bedrooms; the third floor contains a big three person bedroom, a two person bedroom and a smaller tower room for one person. All through the house you will find heavy oak beams. The 4 large bedrooms all have their own, stylish bathroom that holds a shower, toilet and sink. All rooms have a view on the surrounding estate; the rooms are very diverse in colouring and interior decoration. The staircase contains an old oak floor. On both the front- and the backside of the manoir you will find a large terrace. The one on the backside is also accessible through the garden doors in the salon. On the front side (south) there is a sun garden with rose bed, hortenses, hibiscus (the blue one is impressive) and rhododendrons, a spacious meadow, linden trees and a century-old red beech. Through the back gate you will walk straight into the woods. You can park you car on the parking lot on the estate.

| The town of Lormes, with her typical, throughout the wide surroundings visible church, is a small regional centre (with supermarkets, bakeries, butchers, pharmacist, cafés, 3 restaurants, a hotel, two banks, etcetera), is located on the border of the Morvandese ”black mountains” and the lower placed sloped scenery. At the edge of the town, on 5 minutes walking distance from the house, there is a small beach at a lake, where you can take a refreshing dive. The town, once containing two rivalling castles, breathes the confinedness of a former farming community, with rigid capital houses in small alleys. A cascade nearby the centre. Many castles in the nearby surroundings, untouched nature and villages, many dreamy paths, and most of all silence. Nowhere you will find a smaller number of inhabitants then in this natural park. The region that once was beautifully portrayed by 19th-century painter Corot. Many incomparably bright starry nights. Breathtaking skies. Broad panoramic views. And the air is known for being the purest of all of France...

The Morvan is an ideal hiking area. Through the back gate of our park you will find yourself surrounded by forests. Within 15 minutes with the car there is a large lake with a beach, and only small amounts of visitors. Exciting canoe trips in the area, tennis courts around the corner, a dream environment for biking and horseback riding; you could even bring your own horses. The famous Roman basilica at Vézelay, the cathedral of the old Roman settlement Autun, the mysterious diggings of the oppidum Bibracte from the old Gauls, the wonderful chateau Bazoches, all great places walk around and imagine past times. The most towns only have their weekly market, a yearly vide grenier (second-hand market) and a single village has a Brocante (antiques market). Local parties with (historical) music, sometimes dancing and joining the locals at long dining tables. Your time will be to short to visit everything… The following activities can be done in the nearby surroundings (max. 30 minutes by car):
Swimming, hiking, mountainbiking, horseback riding, watersports.

| The Morvan is located in Burgundy, so food and wine will get the attention that obviously comes with this region. The ”cuisine Morvandaise” is honest, sometimes robust, fitting the countryside life. And if you would rather cook for yourself, you will notice that Lormes contains several outstanding butchers, or you can buy your fish at the weekly market. The Burgundy wines are of course insurmountable. Among them are also the wines of the nearby Tannay (try the Melon) and the slightly further located Vézelay. A few miles outside of Lormes you will find Chateau Chabannes, next to the village of Saugny. This castle has been inhabited by the Chabannes family ever since the 15th century, and the count will be happy to let you taste his wines, and you will presumably leave with a box or two.
