The gîte has been renovated and equipped to a very high standard with a dishwasher, washing machine and a recently fitted modern kitchen.The gîte itself is ideally suited to two families or three generations holidaying together. It is arranged with 2 bedrooms on each floor and a bathroom and separate WC on both floors. Downstairs has a large, cool sitting room with comfortable chairs and a satellite TV and DVD. It is a lovely place for children to play. They can come and go from the garden.
There is a summer kitchen leading from it which can be used when having a barbecue.
Stairs lead up from the sitting room into the upstairs dining/kitchen area. There is plenty of room here to sit and chat while meals are cooked. There are outside stairs which give access to upstairs at either end of the gîte.
We can provide some baby equipment and there is a sandpit and a paddling pool.

Le Pavillon is set in the grounds of the Chateau de Mariol but has its own large garden. The swimming pool is shared with other resident in the chateau grounds. It is of a good size.
The entrance to the gîte is from a very quiet lane that leads out of the pretty village of Mariol into the hills behind (Montagne Bourbonnaise). Mariol village, with its café and boulangerie, is 2 minutes walk away. It is open and sunny and a has a stream running through the centre. Supermarket shopping is less than 10 minutes away.
There is parking for 2 cars under the hornbeam trees which provide shade in the garden when it is needed. The large garden is mostly lawn but there is a south facing terrace. A gate in the hedge at the bottom of the garden gives access to the swimming pool which is about 30 metres away. There are many lovely walks which can be taken directly from the gîte. The whole area is very unspoilt and there is lots to explore. Nature lovers will enjoy the abundant wildlife: numerous species of flowers and birds, streams with fish, foxes, pine martins, deer and wild boar hiding away in the woods. There are also many medieval castles and villages and small towns with ancient centres.
Vichy, an active spa town, is 15 minutes away. It is a very pleasant place to visit with lovely riverside parks, a lake, elegant 19th century buildings such as the opera house, smart boutiques and shops, cafés and restaurants.

| Your holiday at Mariol could just be passed relaxing in the garden looking at the view, basking in the sun or swimming in the swimming pool in the chateau domain. However there are many other outdoor activities accessible from Mariol. There are plenty of waymarked walks in the area and we can give you descriptions of these. There are also routes for mountain bike cyclists. There are tennis courts 10 minutes away in St Yorre and rivers and lakes in the mountains nearby. The rivers Allier and Sioule offer canoeing for novices and more experienced canoeists and there is sailing on the Plan d’eau at Vichy. There are golf courses available near Vichy.

There are good restaurants in the area ranging from the village café to the Michelin star Chateau de Maulmont hotel restaurant which is run by a Dutch family. There are many good restaurants in the spa town of Vichy. The local St. Pourcain wine is very drinkable but good wines from all over France are available very reasonably in the local supermarket. In fact the fish meat and vegetables sold there are also of a very high quality.
