La Rastelayre is situated very close to the towns of St Pierreville, Albon and St. Sauveur-de-Montagut. The area is known for it’s chestnuts, bilberries and goatsmilk cheese (picodons).
The local cuisine is varied and, generally, inexpensive with many restaurants dotted around the local villages. We can help you choose a restaurant to suit your needs when you are here - there is plenty of choice from pizzerias to auberge restaurants where the food is local and made from fresh produce from the vegetable garden.
Most villages have a small general store and practically all have a good baker with fresh bread baked daily. Larger grocery stores are available in the bigger towns like Valence, Le Cheylard and La Voulte. There are also local markets where local farmers sell their fresh produce including vegetables and fruit, cheeses, sausages and meat, honey and various other local delicacies as well as clothing, fabric and table cloths, herbs and spices and wine.
