Ussel is situated in the middle of the department the Lot 14 miles north of the town Cahors (distance from Calais appr. 500 miles).
The department Lot, one of the less populated areas in France, is named after the river Lot. In the north of the Lot you will find the river Dordogne. Between these two rivers is a chalk stone plateau “les Causses de Quercy” which is known for its prehistoric caves, castles and picturesque villages. The landscape is varied: steep valleys, woodlands and rocks, ideal for the nature lover, rambler, or if you don’t mind a few hills, the cyclist.
The main town of the Lot is Cahors, known for its wine and medieval history.

Ussel is a good base for various trips in the area. A visit to Cahors, Saint-Cirq-Lapopie (one of the most beautiful villages in France), Rocamadour, Sarlat, Souillac and the vine-yards are just a few examples of the possibilities. Other remarks
The birds are singing, the frogs croaking and on an evening walk you might see roe deer or wild boar. The buzzards, hawks and kites are circling above the valleys.
