| Excideuil is a market town with its market every Thursday morning. A tennis court is available in Excideuil, horse riding in nearby St Mesmin and Tourtoirac, golf courses in Perigueux (30 mins) and Brive (60 mins). The house is situated close to the famous Chateau Hautefort and Gardens (10 mins). Pompadour is a 30 minutes drive away which is second only to Paris in its equestian activities.

| Excideuil has an excellent hotel (Hostellerie de Fin Chapon) serving top class French cuisine. There are two other restaurants/bars in the town. One focuses on crepes and pizzas and the other has local cuisine. All have plat du jours each day with an average price range of €7.50 - €12.50. Excellent food and value. All restaurants are located in the town only 5 kms from the house.

The house is situated in a beautiful and quiet farming hamlet and is the ideal place to get away from the stresses of modern life yet it is only 5 kms from the market town of Excideuil with banks, pharmacies, shops, supermarket, doctors and dentists etc. In fact everything one needs is at hand. Closeby are the historic sites of Chateau de Hautefort (15 kms), where many films have been made, and which is steeped in history. Other attractions are Chateau de Jumilhac (17 kms), Lascaux Caves (34 kms), enjoy a coffee or lunch near the river at the beautiful village of Segur-le-Chateau (30 kms), Terrasson Gardens of Imagination (36 kms), Thiviers Market Town (17 kms) and many more places of interest. Excideuil itself is historical and quaint and many of its houses date from the 15th and 16th centuries. The church in the centre proudly shows off its gothic architecture from the same period. Large medieval ramparts surround Excideuil’s castle, which played a key part in establishing the village as the capital of the Green Perigord. It successfully repelled Richard the Lionheart on 3 different occasions. It is set impressively on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Loue Valley.

One of Excideuil’s attractions is its Thursday market, when the town becomes busy and bustling. Here you can sample the local produce and experience all things French.
Lake Rouffiac (Lac de Rouffiac) is situated in the heart of wooded parkland of 100 hectares, and bordering one of the largest lakes in the region, this tourist site has a beach and restaurant and many sporting activities such as tele-skiing, kayaking, canoeing and swimming. Canoeing and Kayaking - either locally on the Auvézere river at Cherveix-Cubas (10 mins) and Cubjac (15 mins) or slightly further afield e.g. on the Vézere at Montignac (30 mins), on the Dronne at Brantome (50 mins) or on the Dordogne at la Roque-Gageac (75 mins).
Horse Racing at Pompadour (30 mins), also home to one of the French National Studs.
Horse Riding at St Mesmin or Tourtoirac.
Golf - 18 hole golf course at Périgueux (40 mins) and Brive (60 mins)

Quad Biking - There are various locations for quad biking in the area, the nearest being at Hautefort (10 mins).
Fishing - River fishing on the Auvérzere (5 mins) or lake fishing (with carp over 30 lbs) at Etang de Coucou (10 mins).
