| The Gers is one of the most rural departments in France, with pretty medieval villages and towns, set in among rolling hills. It is a region which offers hospitality, good food and space to relax in. Buhobent, patois for ’where the wind blows’ is a hamlet of four households. It is perched on top of a high escarpment, surrounded by farmland and has panoramic views looking south towards the distant Pyrenees. Our property is made up of several small buildings, the remains of dwellings from a time when an active community lived here. One of these buildings, a bakery, still has an oven attached. Another, has been reconstructed into the little stone gîte we are offering. It stands in the garden beside the main house, and consists of small entrance hall; shower-room; bedroom with double bed; living area with fitted kitchen fully equipped for two people. A door leads out into the garden which is calm and sheltered, with table, chairs and sun loungers.

| Close by is the small, fortified, medieval town of Lectoure, once the principal seat of the Comtes d’Armagnac. Built on a thin chalk promontory, its long narrow streets are dominated by the fine cathedral of St Gervais. It is a classified ’Ville de Tourisme’, with many attractive buildings, a museum of archeology, a cinema, and a thermal complex the Thermes de Lectoure. It is also home to the Montgolfieres de Gascogne, who organize splendid air balloon trips. Around us are many well signed walking and cycling routes, and the GR65 chemin de St Jacques de Compostelle. Nearby is the pleasure lake of the Lac de Trois Vallees holiday site. There are many old chateaux, churches and vineyards, as well as a good number of picturesque villages to visit. Each little town in this area has a weekly street market. These offer an opportunity to try the local produce. Throughout summer there are many fetes and festivals. Classical concerts and organ recitals are held in the old churches of the region.
